How to Turn Off Subtitles on Sky Sports App

Subtitles may auto-enable due to settings or a device glitch. To fix:

Subtitles are available when watching live TV and On Demand shows on the Sky Go app. They’re not available for recordings or live TV streams in Sky Go from a connected Sky Q box. Subtitles aren’t available on the Sky Kids app or on TV shows in Sky Store.

You may need to press i on your Sky remote to bring up the programme information. You can also check for subtitles while watching TV by bringing up the programme banner and checking for the letter S.

There’s also a Subtitles section in the On Demand, Sky Box Sets and Sky Cinema menus.

You can turn off subtitles for specific programmes you are currently watching by selecting the button with the 3 white dots (just below the power button) on your remote.

There isn’t a dedicated “subtitle button” on the Sky remote for Sky TV or the Sky Go app. Here’s how to manage subtitles on each platform:

Sky TV:

1. Using the “?” Button (Temporary):
   • Press the “?” button on your Sky remote.
   • Navigate to “Subtitles” using the arrow buttons.
   • Select “On” or “Off” with the right/left arrows and press “Select” to confirm.
   Note: This method only temporarily turns subtitles on/off for the current channel. They might reappear when you switch channels.
2. Settings Menu (Permanent):
   • Press “Home” on your Sky remote.
   • Navigate to “Settings” and press “Select.”
   • Go to “Accessibility” and then “Subtitles.”
   • Choose “On” or “Off” for subtitles and press “Select” to save the setting permanently.
3. Voice Control (Sky Q Remote Only):
   • Hold the voice button on your Sky Q remote and speak “Turn subtitles on” or “Turn subtitles off.”

Sky Go App:

Unfortunately, the Sky Go app currently lacks a built-in option to manage subtitles. You’ll need to use your device’s accessibility settings:

1. Device Accessibility Settings:
   • Open your device’s Settings (phone, tablet, smart TV).
   • Locate options related to Accessibility or Subtitles & Captioning.
   • Within those settings, find the option to turn on/off Closed Captions or Subtitles.

Alternative: Reinstalling the Sky Go app might resolve temporary subtitle glitches in some cases.

Sky Go app currently doesn’t offer a similar built-in option.

Here’s what you can do instead:

1. Device Accessibility Settings: This is the most reliable way to manage subtitles within the Sky Go app. The steps will vary depending on your device (phone, tablet, smart TV). Here’s a general approach:
   • Open your device’s Settings.
   • Locate options related to Accessibility or Subtitles & Captioning.
   • Within those settings, find the option to turn on/off Closed Captions or Subtitles.
2. Reinstall Sky Go App (if method 1 fails): Reinstalling the app can sometimes resolve temporary issues that might be causing subtitles to stick on.

Important Note: Sky is constantly updating the app, so there’s a chance a future update might include a dedicated subtitle option within Sky Go itself. You can keep an eye on the Sky Help Forum or app updates for any announcements.
