The England captain, already holding the title of Bayern’s most expensive transfer, smashed the record for most goals scored in a debut season with his 31st league goal, surpassing the 59-year-old mark set by legendary striker Uwe Seeler (30 goals in 1963-64).
Kane’s historic strike came in dramatic fashion, a diving header in first-half stoppage time to turn the tide for Bayern after Darmstadt had taken the lead through Tim Skarke.
However, his celebration was cut short as he twisted his ankle after colliding with the post late in the game. The extent of the injury remains unclear, casting a shadow over his availability for England’s upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.
Despite the worry surrounding Kane, Bayern dominated the game from the start. Jamal Musiala, recently called up to the German national squad, showcased his talent with a dazzling solo run and finish for their first goal.
The young star added another goal in the second half, with substitute Serge Gnabry and Mathys Tel also finding the net. Darmstadt threatened a late comeback when Oscar Vilhelmsson struck the crossbar and later scored a consolation goal, but Bayern held firm to secure a crucial three points.
The win propels Bayern closer to the top of the table, placing them just seven points behind league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
While the record-breaking night might be tinged with concern over Kane’s health, Bayern will be buoyed by this resounding victory and their continued title challenge.
