Head joins Smith: Aussie Star Signs with Washington Freedom for MLC!

Australian batsman Travis Head is defying fatigue and extending his cricketing year by signing with the Washington Freedom for Major League Cricket’s 2024 season!

This move reunites him with teammate Steven Smith and places them both under the guidance of legendary Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting, who recently took the helm as Freedom’s head coach.

Head’s decision comes as a surprise considering his already packed schedule. The talented opener is currently battling through the IPL with the Sunrisers Hyderabad and previously endured a demanding stretch with the Australian team, including a tour of New Zealand and the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Despite the heavy workload, Head has opted to forgo rest and continue his cricketing journey in the United States.

This signing bolsters the Washington Freedom’s roster significantly. Head joins Smith and fellow countryman Rachin Ravindra, a rising star from New Zealand.

The Freedom also retained two key overseas players from their inaugural season – Marco Jansen and Akeal Hosein.

Head’s commitment adds to the growing Aussie contingent in the MLC. Adam Zampa (Los Angeles Knight Riders), Spencer Johnson (Knight Riders), and Tim David (MI New York) are already confirmed participants, with more likely to join before the tournament kicks off on June 29th, directly following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup.

This news highlights the increasing appeal of Major League Cricket, attracting top international talent like Head and showcasing the league’s potential to become a major force in the global cricketing landscape.
