The Delhi Capitals have received a much-needed boost with the signing of South African speedster Lizaad Williams. Williams comes in as a replacement for Harry Brook, who tragically withdrew from IPL 2024 due to the passing of his grandmother.

This will be Williams’ IPL debut, joining the Capitals for his base price of INR 50 lakh. He’s set to bolster a pace attack already featuring his countryman Anrich Nortje, along with Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Jhye Richardson, and Mukesh Kumar.

The team also boasts pace-bowling allrounders Mitchell Marsh (currently injured) and Sumit Kumar.

Williams brings impressive credentials. He has snagged 106 wickets in just 83 T20 matches, boasting a stellar average of 19.76! Having made his South African debut in 2022, he’s already featured in two Tests, four ODIs, and 11 T20’s for the Proteas.

His recent form is also noteworthy. He was part of South Africa’s 2023 ODI World Cup squad and claimed 15 wickets for the Joburg Super Kings in the SA20, finishing as the fourth-highest wicket-taker in the tournament.

Williams’ arrival is perfectly timed for the Capitals. They are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table with four losses in five matches. Mitchell Marsh’s hamstring injury further weakened their bowling attack, making Williams’ ability to hit the ground running even more crucial.

Can Williams’ fiery pace turn the tide for the Capitals? Only time will tell, but his addition surely injects a much-needed dose of excitement and hope for their remaining IPL campaign.
