Cricket fans in the US are in for a treat! The scorching batting talent, Steve Smith, has signed with the Washington Freedom for the upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC) season. This marks the 34-year-old Australian maestro’s debut in the US-based franchise competition.
Smith, renowned for amassing nearly 10,000 runs in Test cricket, brings a wealth of experience and exceptional batting prowess to the Freedom squad.
He joins forces with his former national teammate, Ricky Ponting, who spearheads the Washington Freedom as head coach. The duo will be aiming to surpass their 2023 performance, where Freedom fell short in the eliminator stage to the eventual champions, MI New York.
The highly anticipated MLC season kicks off on July 4th, following the conclusion of the T20 World Cup hosted jointly by the USA and the West Indies.
Smith’s addition to the league further strengthens its international appeal. He joins fellow Australians Adam Zampa (Los Angeles Knight Riders), Spencer Johnson (Knight Riders), and Tim David (MI New York), creating a thrilling prospect for cricket enthusiasts across the US.
With Smith’s batting brilliance and Ponting’s strategic leadership, the Washington Freedom are poised to make a strong run for the MLC championship. Get ready for a summer filled with exhilarating cricket action!
